    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The current structure is a tight 6 lane span with no shoulders and certainly not up to 400 series standards. If they need to do a significant rehab to it, that would cause a ton of long duration headaches both for traffic flow and construction logistics. So to mitigate this they're going to...

Would the Gardiner flow ok if the lane reduction was permanent? Having 2 lanes instead of 3 would give you a shoulder where break downs/crashes and whatnot can be moved which is a major cause of the jamming. On/off ramps could also be made longer and there would be less overall weight/stress on...

Interesting! They must have just started up. I drove over the Glanworth overpass after the Eclipse to try and get around some insane traffic south of London- did not see any construction work at all. These country roads were probably the busiest they've ever been. That included a drive on the...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

All of London's ridings went NDP the last two provincial elections. We have never had anyone from the Douggie Ford's government represent us, and I can't currently see that changing for 2026.

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

Any LRT in London is as good as dead. The final proposed rapid transit plan was downgraded to BRT for all routes, and only half of that got approved. Once the system as approved gets built the city may assess it's performance and propose expansions, including the two cancelled lines. However...

Great info, thanks for sharing! Ya the western freeway was a thing, not sure if it still is as there hasn't been any news on it for at least a decade. The VMP upgrade at the 401 even in these plans replaced the free-flowing 401 EB to VMP NB connection with a stoplight. That's a downgrade in my...

City approves transit village... without rapid transit. The cancelled east leg BRT would have been close by. https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/traffic-transit-worries-surface-as-25-storey-wonderland-road-tower-debated A similar situation is unfolding at Masonville mall, which was the...

Don't get me wrong the flight from London to Pearson is stupid, but it is convent AF. The part of Pearson it does occupy is for smaller prop planes. but I guess if you retrofitted/expanded this area you would get some more jet-ways for bigger aircraft flying to destinations further out. Ideally...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

It's usually easier and cheaper overalll just to fly to Pearson from the London airport. Connecting flights are a steal. I'm flying to Vegas this summer and it cost me a loonie more to take a flight from London to connect at Pearson than flying out of Pearson itself. Saves the cost of airport...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Even the wacko fringe parties are sane enough to know this is nonsense. Feel free to run as a independent as you're probably the only one you would vote for anyway.

Hey now, you just gotta be creative! For example: once a 400-series has 6 lanes from start to end- can we give it a 600-series designation? Perhaps one day the 401 can be the 601 :D The 409 is 6 lanes all the way right? That would be the only contender currently. 427 comes damm close.

Once (or even if) the Highway 7 freeway gets built from Kitchener to Highway 6 in Guelph, then we can look at a further extension to the 413 (if built). That would give you a redundancy in the highway network and could even delay widening of the 401.

Bypass of the Toronto bypass' bypass. Triple bypass surgery anyone? 🤪

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

The GO rail pilot project to London was designed to fail. It was so Douggie could shrug his shoulders at it and said we tried so they can deny any extensions/expansions of the service to London. It had no chance in hell of succeeding.

I do know there's a lot of pre-work and EAs going on right now for it... For Douggie and his gang these rural ridings in SW Ontario are PC safe so the short stretch in Tilbury was done to appease them and no actual contruction has taken place since. Maybe another chunk will get underway after...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

I agree! It's a pretty minor local story that's really only significant for some locals. It's only loosely tied to the BRT project and may have proceeded even if BRT was cancelled... but it was posted here.

It's not a multi-million / billion dollar project, but it is something when there was nothing before. Beats taking a taxi/uber or bumming a ride of friends/family/neighbours.

RIP to the last original 401 overpasses. I always liked the one at Dorchester because you could see it a long ways off coming up that incline going WB. It looks pretty cool without a central support, but I'm sure the replacement will be generic and have one. Westchester had a similar design...
