    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I saw the latest Google Streetview imagery the other day from September, and it aligns with what you said. Should hopefully be completed in December. As for the next widening phase, MTO Southern highways program lists 2 contracts to begin in 2024-25 in the Hwy 4 area. I saw the tender for...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Agreed, what I mean is they one of those lanes could be used as a ramp to highway 8 but will not be constructed at the moment. This is all speculation to be clear - I am sure the exact plans are out there somewhere.

The article mentions that the highway will be widened to 10 lanes over the new bridges. That just sounds unlikely to me. Most likely they'll make the bridge wide enough for 10 lanes, and perhaps one of those could be for ramps to and from highway 8.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

This leads to one of the things I have been trying to figure out lately. The widening between the two highway 6 interchanges - does that widening include replacing the two highway 6 bridges over the 401, or just an interchange reconfiguration. If it does include replacing those two bridges, I...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

The remaining sections would be about 30 km I think. Unless we get one of these rare huge projects like the widening between Milton to Mississauga right now that complete in only 3 years, I think it will take at least a decade, if not much longer to widen the remaining sections. To be honest...

At what timeline though? Based on the way things are looking at for the next 5 years, if not much longer, the Hwy 25 to Townline section will remain 6 lanes (save for the highway 6 section). I suppose HOV from Hwy 25 to 410 is still not bad.

To be more precise, I was hearing about the Highway 24 bridge replacement work starting. But yeah, it'll probably be minimal if any work this year.

You have a fair point. Now that PCs have got the ball rolling on it, it will not look good for liberals if if they kill the widening. Especially in Windsor and London area where people regularly use this part of the 401. I think the timeline is a little tight for EA + contract to be...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I am hearing widening between Highway 24 and Townline Road has started in Cambridge. Has anyone gone that way to check it out?

Still, I don't see any large patches being widened unless PCs get re-elected. This 11 km patch will likely be the only one widened, however I hope I am proven wrong. Somewhat related to this, what are the plans to reconstruct the highway 4 interchange? The Southern Highways program (back when...

Most likely man would have started living on mars by then.

Mostly politics, as mentioned in the post above. However, the pressure to widen to 6 lanes can build be due to any of the following reasons: 1) Safety concerns, as was the case in the Windsor - Tilbury section and is currently the case in Tilbury - London. 2) Helping certain far flung...

Forget that, right now it's a pipe dream to widen it 6 lanes up to Kingston. Cobourg to Kingston is about 130 km and there's no pressure on MTO to widen that to 6 lanes. The median in that section is quite wide, and in the narrow sections they have concrete barriers. I think I'll see pigs...

I believe the tall wall barrier is actually an MTO creation, even though it is now very common in the US. You can see it on the 401 in several places between KW and London. I suspect the construction for this contract will start in spring 2021. But it's only for 11 km. It'll be interesting...

I think those two would be the last 30s era bridges in the Durham Region. Henry St is already done and Brock should be done too (don't know the status of the project yet).

I guess that makes sense. Afterall, the sun revolves around GTA.

Of course they are not going to move forward on highway 7 or widening between Hespeler and Townline. KWC area didn't vote for the conservatives. C-K OTOH voted for the conservatives. What's more likely to happen is one (maybe 2?) of the contracts might be underway before conservatives get...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I would not expect all the projects to happen in parallel. They could perhaps do Hespler - Townline in parallel with Highway 6 North - South. For the remaining 6-laned carriageway, if they divide it into two mega projects, one between Guelph and Milton, and second between Cambridge in Guelph...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

If Hespeler - Townline and Highway 6 North to Highway 6 south gets done, that will leave about 30 km. Both those projects are targeted to be started in the short term. If they issue a giant contract or two (like Mississauga - Milton widening) for the remaining parts, they can get it done in a...
