When the metro opened in Laval it was inaugurated on a Friday and it was free all weekend. Maybe they'll do something similar? My boyfriend and I already decided to go to the Cineplex by du Quartier station on the opening weekend.

Yes I saw that map, however in the article I posted here yesterday, the person they interviewed from Alstom mentioned that they would propose to skip downtown Montreal and build a "North" station so that the line could go from Toronto to Québec City without having to detour to Gare Centrale or...

It's not an easy spot to build something. You can't build underground because of the REM line, and you can't block the intersection. It has to be elevated, but it's also a busy freight route to the port for CP.

From what I understand there is no downtown Montréal station, only a Montréal "Gare du Nord". There is a planned stop in Laval and I believe there is one in Terrebonne as well (but I could be mistaken on this one).

https://journalmetro.com/actualites/2991560/tgv-montreal-a-un-role-a-jouer-dans-le-projet-selon-alstom/ Article in French only, but I can give a summary in English: - Montréal is seen by Alstom as the hub of the HSR/HFR network because it is at the junction between the western leg...

The expert is vouching for a link that runs from Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont in the east end through Rosemont and Plateau that connects with the orange line at Sherbrooke and the green line at Saint-Laurent before ending at Gare Centrale. Is that idea more expensive than "massive station...

On Twitter this expert clarified his thoughts and said he was not worried about the green line going over capacity. His point is that he doesn't want the East to be left with half of a solution. The green line would be able to absorb the additional users, especially with plans to convert it to...

I ALMOST FORGOT. There is also this idea to not build anything under Mercier-Est and have two lines. Big Scarborough RT vibes!

The mayor of Québec City retweeted the article and said he'd advocate for HSR when he meets with Justin Trudeau.

The upper left image in my previous post (base build without extensions) would have a ridership of 18,000 at the start of operations, and would generate a driver conversion rate of 17%, according to the report. The new project also provides more connectivity (at Assomption on the green line, at...

Basically it would take over the Lanaudière portion of Mascouche line. The latest working report explains that extensions to Laval and Mascouche would not generate much ridership and would require much more analysis. The only extension that makes sense would be in RdP.

The downtown portion is cut, it will be a line that runs west from Pointe-aux-Trembles and then north to Montréal-Nord. It will have another name as CDPQi is no longer part of the project.

https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/montreal-and-quebec-to-invest-565-million-in-metro-1.6241972 565M invested to modernize the Blue Line and install CBTC. They'll do the blue line first because of the extension and it will be a test for the other lines to follow.

No. They said there could be potential extensions of REM de l'Est to Lanaudière in the future.

That's the Vaudreuil-Hudson line (ex-Rigaud, as nfitz mentionned). Pre-pandemic they ran 6-8 car trains, same with St-Jérôme. Deux-Montagnes had EMUs. Since the pandemic however they run shorter trains with reduced frequencies (it has not increased yet, sadly).

I don't know who your engineer friend is, but they just gave a contract to AECOM/Systra to update the study they had started with the Caisse for the new project. The goal is to come up with a solution that is better integrated with existing transport infrastructure (metro blue/green lines...

Yes, the initial plan for the blue line had a 4 stop extension west of Snowdon towards Ville-Saint-Pierre (part of Lachine, it wasn't planned to go all the way to the actual Lachine). The extension east was originally supposed to go northeast to Montréal-Nord, but those plans changed with the...

That map was a working document created in 1967. It was never intended as a realistic road map of what the network should look like, but rather an exercise to identify key corridors in the city for planning purposes. There is one thing I did not mention though and you made me realize it. The...

Were there ever proposals to significantly expand the metro though? Except for the White line in the 80s, the blue line extension pretty much completes the network as it was planned. We'll probably see an orange line extension to Bois-Francs (and maybe Laval) and extensions on the other lines...
