…. And the covered walkway has been uninstalled.

I wish the cladding was darker. They cheaped out on the windows, and there is too much contrast between the windows and the cladding. Something darker would make the mesh pop a lot more when it's dark/dusk as well. Still cool for being something different though, and a great add for the location.

Do they typically self fund (via debt) or take on external investors? This makes a lot of sense, and now I'm curious if things had stops/starts as the costs and funding situation changed. Or sometimes you get the fun ones like a structural engineer really screwing the pooch (Bridgeland Long...

    Calgary | Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

I picked October to go like for like, as the exterior of the convention centre was largely done at that point. There has been progress on Flyover Block since then, but I'm not sure I'd call it significant. I suspect there was some kind of problem with the exterior mesh and/or sourcing the...

    Calgary | Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

I'm not sure if it's trolling or not. The intent was to show that over a similar time period, we went from ground breaking to a completed half billion dollar convention centre, and saw a 6 story wood frame project make it about half way to completion (I'm estimating that at the current pace...

No opposition? Ha! They are already freaking out about the CNIB site and "traffic, parking, views" etc.

Anyone know what happened to this? Seems totally dead after demolition.

    Calgary | Bridgeland Mixed Use | 22m | 6s | Westrich Pacific | S2

I made the mistake of opening facebook for the first time in forever. Did you know that this project is the continuation of "Bridgeland going down the tubes" and by bulldozing the absolute worst block in the neighbourhood, we're going to inexcusably destroy valued local businesses that need to...

As the foundation shapes up, I'm shocked at how small the footprint is. I think that will add even more to the cool factor.

I actually don't mind that there are awful looking buildings. If you had a decent street (2 way with parking, maybe some actual trees) you have retail up tight against the sidewalk, and could actually get a nice little corridor there, despite being an architectural wasteland. Throw some street...

    Calgary | Dominion | 53m | 15s | Bucci Developments | Urban Agency

It looks like residential units on the St. Matthew Square side to me, not retail. Sure, I guess there could be some wind, but I find public spaces placed between tightly spaced buildings are more attractive than completely wide open spaces.

    Calgary | Dominion | 53m | 15s | Bucci Developments | Urban Agency

It's kind of too bad there isn't a public outdoor space between the two towers instead of the podium that blocks off pedestrian movement.

Looks to be some footings poured with heaters on them a couple days ago. Sorry, no photos. Hopefully more action soon though!

    Calgary | Bridgeland Riverside Continuing Care Centre | 18.59m | 5s | Province of Alberta | FWBA

This thing is going so slow. Is it like a hospital, and super complicated to build because of all of the specialized infrastructure for care?

    Calgary | The Bridge | 52.42m | 16s | Jemm Properties | Zeidler

I'm torn on this. I like the idea of the little square/plaza on the other side of the building (not necessarily the current execution) and shoving angle parking there would kill the future potential to make it a proper little square that could be highly usable. 9th street just kind of sucks...

    Calgary | Multifamily Bridgeland | 16m | 5s | Groupe Denux | ACE

Does that south elevation mean that there will be a small green space between this and the adjacent house? As someone who lives on a lot that will likely end up with this type of thing as a direct neighbour one day, I don't mind that. Having all the balconies looming over your yard wouldn't be...

    Calgary | Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

I'm really really excited to see this moving. I will continue to reiterate how wrong I was every time they tried to spruce up the area under the flyover. I figured it was a lost cause. When the playground was funded, I was surprised and skeptical. I use park frequently, and it's always packed...

I don't see the DP as released yet. I got all excited when I saw the excavator. Is this actually going ahead? Is this some pre-work that is an approval condition or something?

I wasn't a big fan of the renderings, but find my self surprised at how much less it offends me in person.
