    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The DVP works the same way: know when to avoid it and it's totally fine.

    Toronto Toronto | Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

The lack of communication b/w Metrolinx and the Province is staggering to say the least here. Embarrassing policy walkback regardless of how you feel about either option.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

I agree with you. The logic seems to be that they're spooked about the CPC winning in Fall '25 and then Ontario flipping opposite of the feds as they always do in 2026. So run an election in Spring '25 ahead of the Fed election to prevent that from happening. Seems unlikely but not the craziest...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

This jives with the Paikin article today suggesting that Ford may pull the trigger early on an Ontario election to get ahead of the 2025 federal election.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Drivers will always ignore signs or other lights if they think they can. A week ago I had a lengthy wait for a bus on King at Spadina and watched as loads of WB vehicles simply turned left from a lane that didn't exist and/or went straight despite signage telling them not to. Later on that walk...

    VIA Rail

I am enough of a masochist that I am now Premier level of VIA Rail for 2024-2025 and have default access to the business lounges. I've been to the Ottawa and Montreal lounges before but outside of Union and Quebec City I...don't think there are any others? The VIA website lists the following as...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

These all sound like personal questions to overcome more than systemic ones. Kingston and London are both in the corridor and so aren't really relevant to this thread precisely, nevermind the fact that Kingston is closer to Ottawa airport than Pearson for connections. Depending on where one is...

    Toronto Toronto | The Well | 174.03m | 46s | RioCan | Hariri Pontarini

Really love how this has turned out. Took the Spadina car down and Spadina/Front felt incredibly busy and alive on a Sunday afternoon. Big groups of people out walking around. Interior design is good, really appreciate the stairs connections to Wellington. A massive improvement for the area.

    Toronto Toronto | CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

Didn't snap a pic but the cantilever over the rail lines is very cool. Hangs over two of the rails IIRC.

    Ottawa Transit Developments

Everything with the Ottawa system was designed by suburban committee to save costs, and these are the stations that are not exposed to the elements. I haven't paid much attention but next time i'm out i'll check to see how much the salt they have to put down is eating away at the outdoor...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

This happens on Line 2 as well, although much less of an issue because of frequency. The clear solution is to either increase the frequency of the trains, build more housing where delivery drivers are working, or both! :) It reminds me of the story of how Rosedale residents wanted the bike...

    VIA Rail

I meant to ask the staff onboard but decided against it. Assumed this was the issue but wasn't entirely certain. I've had this train in Toronto delayed many, many times before due to equipment issues (waiting on other trains to arrive) but i'm not sure what that specifically means. Are they...

    VIA Rail

So....back to VIA Rail. I took Train 48 on Monday but it wasn't the new trainset. Any idea what happened? The entire boarding process was weird, as well. Train 48 boarded far earlier than usual, to the point where they directed me up the elevator to the platform. I was told this was because...

    Montréal Transit Developments

That's exciting! I think some sort of connection between Angrignon and Lachine Station would be my preferred option, but Dorval sorely needs more connections as well. As an aside, I recently had to make a very quick connection between YUL and Dorval VIA and my option ended up simply being taxi...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

They do announcements if there are any issues elsewhere in the system.
  17. M

    Ottawa Transit Developments

It was coming as soon as Sutcliffe was elected mayor. It's offensive that OCTranspo would raise rates after providing a train that only works seemingly 50% of the time as well as worsening their bus routes and service. It's also offensive that riders were never given a grace/free period after...

    VIA Rail

Perhaps i'm missing something but you can access a lot of platforms as a civilian without any sort of ticket. I don't think I encountered any intercity stations in Germany/Belgium which had turnstiles or some sort of clearance. Koln Hbf, Berlin Hbf, Brussels Centraal....you can sort of just go...

    VIA Rail

I've sat across from VIA execs on the Corridor on more than one occasion. I think the answer to your question is "frequently".

    VIA Rail

Outside of VIA making announcements asking people to do this, I don't get this either. If the seats are reserved there's literally zero need to queue up before a train, plane, etc. On the other hand, I fear what some stations would look like if passengers were able to roam around the platforms...
