    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It was actually the "Emerald Stone" site on the north side of 15th Avenue. Was to be an Alliance Atlantis cinema.. It fell through when the Alliance Atlantis chain was purchased by Famous Players (the ultimate company successor is Cineplex). The community association was supportive of the project.

    Calgary | Leland Park | 18m | 5s | ICM Development | CTZN

Leland Park was the original name of the subdivision for this area, circa 1910-1911.

I did a bit of research recently on the evolution of Crowchild Trail / 33rd Avenue. Some of you might enjoy:

Interesting. There is a pedestrian overpass south of the interchange. I think it was put in place to connect Currie Barracks to the PMQs in the military days (anybody know different?). Not sure how much use it gets though.

Before Glenmore Landing was built there were several attempts by Campeau in the late 1970s to build high density on this site. Lots of news articles on it, but I couldn't find an image.

Chachi's and Deville are open. Have a coffee and watch the shenanigans at the 4-way stop!

Perhaps the developer who commissioned the original for Edmonton decided to bring the concept to Marda Loop instead, modified for a smaller site than originally proposed. Will be interesting to find out. Makes me happy regardless. Does anyone know if the 124th Street version was ever built?

It's actually a day market in Currie, noon-8, headline got that wrong. Plus there are 3 night markets this year on 34th, working around the main streets work somehow. https://mardaloopnightmarket.ca/

There is a new DP application for the site; design going full BMO, it is no longer the Prairie Block design. Still by CGE Investments. There was prep work happening on the site this week. https://developmentmap.calgary.ca/?find=DP2023-01202

The Marda Loop ARP 2014 only dealt with the area in the BRZ (now BIA) boundary. Was quite limited in that regard. "Main Street planning" since then looked at height and density along the whole corridor, but due to opposition on the east end, zoning was only upgraded in the 2014 ARP area, where...

    Calgary I Marda 33 I ?m I 2s I Ronmor I Abugov Kaspar

Good sleuthing here. A few items: 1. Ronmor owns the Shopper's Building, at least the commercial portion, so it shouldn't be a big deal to extend their alley from the west, and to use/improve the existing 33rd Ave access ramp on east side of Shopper's building to serve both sites. 2. It looks...
