    You are correct, columns were severely under engineered. Now that they know, they know what needs to be done. However, nobody can enter the structure as it is unsafe. Now the question is how to you do the work required without putting people inside?

    That is exactly the reason. Word on the grapevine at CB is the Architect kept pushing for slimmer columns and the Structural Engineer apparently didn’t know any better and obliged. No idea how they found out, but glad it was caught before it came down.
