Drove by this yesterday and it looked like some geotech drilling had been recently completed as there were fresh tracks into the site and a few standpipes poking up.
They made some progress over the winter. The lights are up and looks like they have been working on the interior. Saw a concrete pump the other day pumping into the building. Somewhat promising at least.
Maybe one of the only facilities with a decent capacity that was able to accommodate their dates? Spruce Groves new arena would have been interesting too but between the Saints and other minor hockey, probably not enough ice time?

Fire up the speculation. Spring election? Just a nothing-burger budget address? Pipeline announcement?
There's no way they aren't building a new bridge if that's the cost estimate. There is no way to rationalize rehabbing the existing structure for that cost, especially since the rehab would only get a certain amount of additional years rather than a full life cycle.
From the drawings I still haven't figured out how a vehicle accesses the above ground parking section. Wonder if there will be like some kind of courtyard on top of the above ground parking roof.
Even if the City hypothetically preferred the tunnel there is a chance that it is not at all preferable to CN as it could potentially significantly limit what infrastructure could be installed in their train yard across that alignment and have an impact on their operations. Having a clear span...
