My understanding is that these were removed to allow for builder activity - this wasn’t a case of a car knocking them off. Not sure why they didn’t put them back in after… but the point stands that these bollards are a strange choice.

All very interesting stuff! There is a note there that an RFP would be going out in May for one of the affordable housing sites. Anyone seen any info on that?

The story that is linked there is from yesterday, but Global Edmonton seems to be actively trying to make their audience less informed by imbedding years old videos without telling their audience that those videos are years old. If you watch all the videos and know some are years old, it is...

Appears to be the lot highlighted here. Also note that the city says this is the first of 3 planned multi-storey buildings from Crimson Cove.

When it hasn't rained for a few days, it is possible to walk from Blatchford to the NAIT station if you don't mind a little dust and wind. If it has been raining, you will end up ankle-deep in the thickest mud you've ever seen.

Yes, my understanding is that 119 ave will be connected through to NAIT this summer for driving, but there will also be a shared used path connecting through at 118 ave for biking and walking. This should be a great connection for Blatchford, Westwood and Alberta Avenue residents but will...

This is similar to a number given by CBC on the This is Edmonton podcast this week. It is also similar to what administration was hinting at recently. It seems like an ambitious number, but I'm here for it.

Bill 18 is not in effect yet and I think they said they wouldn't put it in place until Jan 1, 2025. Also - Alberta does not officially have a Housing Minister...

My read of it is that they are referring to only the land development construction stage. So, basically just getting it prepared for building construction.

True - and at the last meeting re the audit, there were hints that some bigger announcements might be coming, but I suspect there is more than could be done to accelerate without sacrificing on the vision. Maybe in the end, Councillor Paquette will just be able to take credit for an acceleration...

This area would be GREAT for an urban reserve or indigenous specific housing projects! The Metis Nation offices are there, amiskwaciy academy is there, the Edmonton Inn hosts many events for indigenous groups. There was a hint of a Blatchford project by the Metis Nation a few years ago - I...

Councillor Wright also made a half-joke about Blatchford getting all the federal dollars they could before the law officially changes on provincial approval!

The original 2010 vision says this (according to the Blatchford website): “Blatchford will be home to up to 30,000 Edmontonians living, working and learning in a sustainable community that uses 100 percent renewable energy, is carbon neutral, significantly reduces its ecological footprint, and...

I don’t think this is the development he was talking about. He said it would be a 4-6 storey. Then again, he said Encore was working on 4 units right now when I know they’ve poured foundations for at least 11 units in the last couple weeks so… For what it’s worth, Stratosphere mentioned...

These points stood out to me as well. There was also a hint that some Housing Accelerator Fund money will be going towards projects in Blatchford. I have found that the Blatchford discussion seems to ignore the 4-6 storey part of the plan. That is what hasn't been started yet and that is what...

Thanks! Getting one of these condo buildings going would be a huge step forward. Even better will be the first mixed-use building...

This would be a huge step forward for Blatchford - do you have a source for this info?

This is great to see! amiskwaciy is really lacking the green space that basically any other junior high/high school in the city would have. The way this plan appears to link the school more to the community and the pond is good to see as well. Regarding Blatchford becoming a "sea of townhomes"...

I probably wouldn't love living in a townhouse facing Airport Road and the back side of the Elections Alberta offices... But I do like how these are oriented to fit so many on the lot. And the pricing looks pretty good!

Each of the Landmark homes come with 20-some solar panels installed on the roof and are supposed to be net-zero. My understanding is that a builder had to show that its homes were net-zero if they wanted to not be attached to the geothermal system.
