    Commuter & Regional Rail

+++1 Reece for a planning and consultation role, we got deep pockets and he is the most passionate advocate for rail infrastructure I know of.

    Commuter & Regional Rail

If Reece is excited for Alberta rail I am too. Even if I don't trust the current government at all, a plan for the future we can work towards is a good thing. I also like his well thought out routing and speed considerations.

    Edmonton | The Mercury Block | 21.7m | 6s

Ah didn't go back far enough, thanks! That is a nice compliment and the scale is nice for the area. Good stuff !

    Edmonton | The Mercury Block | 21.7m | 6s

was i hallucinating or is there a hole in the ground and a few less buildings south of the Mercury block across 102? Presumably mercury block 2 is a go but is it more of the same? any renders or insight?

    Edmonton | Blatchford Development | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I didn't realize how much more road and lots they have built out, glad to see it's taking shape. Still beyond puzzling there is not walkway to the station from what I could tell, you would think that would be a key selling point now. Hope we get some more developers jumping in to put in some units.

    Alberta Politics

Incredibly frustrating to watch. I don't think I can even say "at least the cities aren't so bad" anymore when talking politics. The amount of massive policy changes they have made in such a short time is nuts. I don't know how anyone could smoothly and effectively delivery on any single one of...

Edmonton's population is booming, where are all the new proposals?

In recent walks around westmount, inglewood, grovenor and glenora areas there are a staggering amount of freshly cleared lots. I know not all will be densification but even if it's new giant SFW houses it still drives demand in the areas. I think with zoning changes the gentle density of lots of...

    For What it's Worth

What a nice video to start the week off with. Super glad the winter cycling congress brought folks to the city even more that it's left an impression. That was a way more positive video than I expected and it's always nice to get outside perspective. Yeah we have loads of challenges but let's...

    Edmonton | South Edmonton Hospital & Health Campus | ?m | ?s | Province of Alberta

How the hell are we a supposed 'have province' not worthy of the best healthcare facilities in Canada? Who gives a shit if it's $5B we have a rapidly aging and growing population we need this investment in our major centers now. I guess they should have built it years ago when it was cheaper but...

    Municipal Politics

Glad to see the renaming of Oliver to Wîhkwêntôwin is approved. A lovely name for the area and I am sure will be second nature in no time.

    Federal Politics

https://globalnews.ca/news/10307435/justin-trudeau-housing-announcement-edmonton/ Some good news $175M seems on par with other cities. Could always wish we got more, but I am hopeful the province gets off its grience bullshit to work together on additional funding agreements.

    Commuter & Regional Rail

i really like the 105 alignment idea, lands into a relatively empty part of the valley, 105 is not nearly as busy to construct along, some empty space along the roadway as you get into downtown just south of Jasper could be a great station build out area with not to bad of a gap to the existing...

    Federal Politics

I am getting really disappointed with the allocation of the Housing accelerator fund. Where the heck is our money or announcement? looking at the list of approved cities so far we have been ahead of in reforms, transit, biking expansions, etc... we have had a gigantic increase in population and...

    For What it's Worth

I was just looking for a place to post that. I love Paige's videos and it's a timely look at what we are doing with immigration anyway as the sentiment has really shifted as of late. Surprisingly optimistic considering it is highlighting that we can't just patch up our problems anymore we need...

    Edmonton | Strathearn Heights Redevelopment | 81m | ?s | Nearctic Group | GEC

I am on a rollercoaster of emotions, i saw that this site was cleared 😯 and looked up the development application on the city's page, saw the towers that were proposed :) , then checked out this forum to learn more and was even more excited to see an entire redevelopment of the whole block of...

    Miscellaneous

soooo we seeing anything that takes advantage of the new zoning regs yet? or will it take a while to filter through the system? i am excited to see what sort of infills we start to see. I am quite fond of the end of the block 3-4 unit builds that have popped up everywhere but curious how the mid...

    Edmonton | Blatchford Development | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

ah understandable thanks for the insight crew. I am not sure why we don't treat our technical colleges like universities with housing as part of the equation. But i do see they have agreements with other institutions to help students find housing, so perhaps that is filling the void for them...

    Edmonton | Blatchford Development | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I am sure it's been discussed but why hasn't NAIT / the province jumped on student housing as a jumpstart to the area and filling a need? Reduce impact on nearby areas' rentals, plan ahead for the increased student populations, help out people getting their start in the trades, pool of workers...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Thanks for that well balanced look at the good and bad. I don't really think we are in bad shape for building out this network, or BRT on rails as Foolworm put it. i think where i keep stumbling back to is any really great system has a combo of many modes working together to provide different...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

The discourse around low/high floor, trams good /bad is so utterly confusing trying to follow along with transit-oriented content. On one hand it's spouted as the savior of European cities, quick and cheap to roll out. On the other is the blight of NA transport projects and we are fools to...
