I'm sure the Ukrainians have fallen for the same on the other side. But Russians also suck at dynamic targeting so this is more awesome.
I am kinda pissed that WaPo broke the story. Ukraine might have gotten a little more mileage out of the story.

I am at the point where I will throttle the next person who jumps to whataboutism with the US and the West. The Western way of war doesn't aim for hospitals and universities.

Without NATO equivalent drones or other overhead spotting nor gps-guided munitions, and given the shoddy kit and personnel abilities, and likely obsolete/poor targeting intelligence and maps, can we expect Russia to accurately aim at anything specific? I get the sense that the Russian artilleryman‘s orders are to lob shells and rockets in “that general direction“.
During WW2 we couldn’t bomb specific targets, so we just bombed entire areas, knowing that by killing civilians and destroying civilian buildings as well as hopefully damaging some strategic targets we’d accomplish the objective of hindering the enemy. By the time we were done the cities the Wallies bombed looked no better than those the Russians blasted with artillery fire.
Russia is fighting an all out war with Ukraine, one in which they are increasingly outgunned and outfought. They‘re going to get more brutal, leaning more on our shared history of mass destruction methods of WW2 to keep up the fight. Russia cannot afford to lose this war - if they do, Belarus and Chechnya will breakaway next, along with Moldova and Georgia seizing Russian-backed separatist territories. And it’s only a matter of time before China recognizes Russia’s weakness and gets grabby in the Far East, especially if Taiwan is denied them. China is already makes claims on Vladivostok. In this light, Russia must smash the sh#t out of Ukraine, or die trying. Russia will go to chemical weapons and tactical nukes if they must. Like Hitler in the bunker, Putin doesn’t care if all of Russia goes down with him.

Yes your can. It's not like Google Maps isn't available to Russian planners to confirm there's a hospital or school somewhere. And we're not talking all munitions. We're talking million dollar missiles. They are all guided. And failed guidance on a missile might mean errors of tens of metres. The chances that 95% hit civilian infrastructure by accident is zero.
Just to be clear, we're talking about a supposed superpower that is bragging about drafting children. The idea that bombing daycares and hospitals is beyond them is nonsense.
This is deliberate. And the sad part is that there will probably be no repercussions for these war crimes. Seeing this stuff makes me beyond angry. But also extremely passionate and determined that we go out of our way to deter anti democratic authoritarian states like China and Russia going forward. There should be heavy consequences for this to their society. Even if personal repercussions are not possible.

Westerners need to get a grip and stop falling for the nuclear blackmail. Understand this. If there is a nuclear disaster of any kind in Ukraine, Russia will really be in trouble. If he actually pops a nuke, the US will have no choice but to enter the war. At minimum to deter every two bit dictator from seeking a nuke to annex territory. Imagine Kim Jong Il nuking Seoul to take South Korean territory. The US would be pressured to provide explicit nuclear guarantees to Japan, South Korea and most importantly Taiwan. That would be an absolute disaster for China. And at that point the Chinese will drop all support for Russia.
I give 48-72 hrs after a nuke is popped in Ukraine before several squadrons of F-35 start destroying everything Russian with the smallest electronic signature in Ukraine. And I'm fairly sure the Americans will have quietly warned the Russians about this.

Putin is stupid but he is not that stupid.
No doubt the US would intervene if there was a nuclear disaster in Ukraine and you're right that Putin is very much aware. For Russia, Ukraine is the little brother you can pick-on while your parents scream and yell telling you to leave him alone. Once you punch out your brother and put him into a coma on life support then your father gets involved and grabs his belt beating your ass until it is bruised beyond all recognition.
The same mentality applies to Russia, the moment one nuke be tactical or otherwise gets used offensively the US will start turning Russia into a crater. Putin would then lose all support and Russia would likely capitulate just like Japan did in WW2.
