So.......... not that one should normally accord anything Brian Lilley has to say an iota of credibility..........

But it appears his passionate political views inspired him to do some actual digging on real estate transactions in our humble town.

The article in question is here: https://torontosun.com/opinion/colu...ted-real-estate-holdings-worth-43-7-m-in-2018

From that effort, he has deduced that the great Keilburger Empire, (the WE charities et al.) appears to have done a land assembly for redevelopment purposes.

Said assembly may also include properties on Berkeley though he doesn't identify the addresses that I noticed.

He does specifically indicate that the entire south side of Queen from Berkeley to Parliament has been assembled.

I include the following image below for everyone to follow along.

In black are properties alleged to be assembled by the charities/businesses tied to the Kielburgers.

The circle in red denotes properties on Berkeley which may be part of said assembly (less clear).

Also noted in the article is property on the north side of Queen, but again the address is omitted and presumably could not be part of the same assembly.

Interesting sleuthing. We'll probably see much more of this in the coming years as development pushes east and north east from the core. I wonder if they could also scoop up that parking lot fronting onto Richmond.

Shame to see the fine grained retail biting the dust. I hope whatever condo podium ends up going here has some nice red brick and varied massing to reflect the property at 319 Queen. Or maybe they can retain the facades?

I guess retail will continue to struggle and die. But perhaps the greater residential density will strengthen those who remain standing and things will balance out?

339 and 345 are heritage designated.

'WE' spent a lot of money restoring the corner property.

While I have no knowledge of their plans, I'm inclined to think the corner would stay in tact in its entirely.

You might see a new building go over the top, or you might just see use of the peripheral lands.

Nothing else on the block is designated, but I could see the facade at 319 being saved.

WE Charity laying off staff, looking to sell real estate in Toronto

August 13, 2020

At its global headquarters in Toronto, 22 full-time employees will be laid off and another 59 employees working on fixed-term contracts with the charity won't have their contracts renewed when they expire at the end of the month.

WE Charity's U.K. operations will be centralized in Canada, which means 19 full-time and contract employees in London will be laid off.

In addition, a number of buildings on a block near Moss Park in Toronto acquired by the charity as part of a 25th anniversary plan to create a youth campus will be assessed by the organization to determine which ones could be sold.
