Another day, another Lobbying registration by Smart Centre on another one of their Big Box sites, looking for Employment Lands Conversion.

This is a Walmart-anchored shopping centre located at Milner and Morningside (with the 401 as the southern boundary).

Site size: ~7.8ha/ 20 acres

Looking east through the centre; in behind the camera angle is Cineplex Morningside.

****

Additional notes: Residential across the street to the north, employment lands to west, and east, though the latter in the form of more big box retail.

UTSC (University of Toronto Scarborough) is just across the 401 from here, and a compelling case could be made that there is a built-in housing market to serve.

Eventually, Morningside will likely sport an LRT (Eglinton East), which will likely run up to Sheppard using the carhouse site proposed for the Sheppard East LRT.
Regardless, if this site were to be converted to mixed used, this road must be made more cycling and pedestrian friendly:

Edit to add: I've made note that in all these Smart Centre registrations, the person registering to lobby is their VP Corporate Affairs.
Interesting in that that's very high up, and also in they haven't outsourced the lobbying to a planning firm or the like.

Which got me wondering if there was a reason.........

So I looked up said VP..........she only joined SmartCentre in January of this year, with this massive slew of lobbying activity being since then.
Her previous employment, Executive Director of Communications at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing......

Certainly a very on-point hire for the lobbying being carried out.

Hmm very interesting digging and investigation @Northern Light , you might have to look into being a PI ;)

Regarding the SmartCentres VP and her previous place of employment, all i'm going to say is that is certainly not going to help the province's case that they arent buddy buddy with developers and that they dont line their pockets.
