This house has to get listed: large home at 2597 Lake Shore Blvd. W. behind a low stone wall was the long time home of Charles Abel, a pioneer in the photography business.

Built in the late 1910s in the Arts and Craft style, it was originally owned by a Dr. Richardson, however, he only lived here a few years before selling it to Charles Abel in 1920.

Local historian, Michael Harrison:

You seem quite pro-active, so you may have already done this; but if not, make sure you suggest that in writing to the applicable Councillor; and directly to Heritage as well.

Thanks, I will suggest that 2597 Lake Shore Blvd, as well as all the other old Mimico Estates homes on the south side of Lake Shore Blvd West be put on the heritage list by contacting Councillor Grimes.

The fate of 98 Superior Ave should serve as a lesson to us all. Without 2597 Lake Shore W being on the heritage list, all it takes is a demolition permit to build a new single family home - then 10 days later, 2597 Lake Shore could be gone.

There was one with asymmetrical roof line and a glass greenhouse that was sadly demolished in 2013 after the owner passed away and the estate sold the house to a developer.

The new house built on this property has been for sale several times since 2015, it’s for sale again. I guess no one likes living in it very long.

I thought I'd give this thread a closure for historical sake. I only stopped by the construction site a couple of times. It sat as a hole in the ground for quite a few months before they even did anything with the site.
