These are exciting changes for a neglected area that has so much potential to be a walkable and vibrant mixed-use area. The employment lands designations have really held the area back, reducing development to strip plazas and big box stores. There's no reason why we can't have retail like Home Depot, Metro, and Canadian Tire with finer-grain retail along the avenues and offices and towers above. Instead, we have sprawling single-storey big box retail with massive surface parking lots. I'd love to see a flatiron-style building at Ryding and Gourlay Crescent.

There should be a new north/south street along the eastern edge of this site to St. Clair. It would really benefit both this future development and 87 Ethel Avenue. Otherwise, we're looking at another Liberty Village-style mess where a few narrow side streets must handle all of the traffic of a very high-density area.

The streets in Liberty Village with traffic issues can be very unpleasant to walk when people roll through stop signs as you're trying to cross, drive aggressively, honk, blast music, park on the narrow sidewalks, etc. We need to avoid that here by having a reasonable grid of streets with spacious sidewalks and landscaping to accommodate the future density.

Interesting - I just drove past this site last week and noticed that the former meat packing plant looked abandoned.
