Ahh, so they aren't keeping the facade, just doing a modernist sort of ode to it.
I think the addition looks handsome.
It will be interesting to see the Claridge Bean Counters either scrap the mural, or commission a far less impressive one.

hoggytime update from Marriott Moxy thread. Either they save the bricks of the old facade and they will add them after the tower is up (like Ogilvy's at the Rideau Centre), or they'll roughly replicate the facade (like Caplan's at 90 George).

What's the status of this one? Approved? Has it started? In that picture the lot seems fenced off and there seems to be some activity on site maybe...

Shoring crews have been mobilizing to site and piles have started to arrive.
Now I'm wondering if the 23 story tower is going up as well, the site is completely cleared....

Hmm did a bit of digging and found this from a recent article "The site plan calls for 26 parking spaces to be reserved for hotel guests in a new underground lot at nearby 141 George St. that will serve Claridge’s proposed 22-storey condo tower on that site."
Maybe an larger underground parking (that will serve 141 George St in the future) but wait to build the actual tower? We haven't heard of seen much of it since it was proposed years ago. Is it even approved?

It was approved with the first Andaz tower.
That would have been a good opportunity for the City to negotiate for a public garage to replace the one on Clarence. But alas, we lost all semblance of Leadership after the last election.

from the looks of it, the excavation is going right to the lot line of the Moxy site, I guess Claridge must’ve bought the land where that other hotel was proposed?

On the one hand, hope so to avoid three towers sharing walls like Rideau, on the other hand, if they did buy the site, would they not have made a new proposal?
