A few weeks back I reported seeing a subway car with all its interior lights off in service on the B-D subway during the morning rush hour. Today I actually got a chance to ride in a dark subway car (not as dark as the previous one, though... the lights backlighting the subway route maps were still on). The car's number is 5813.

The funny thing was that despite the darkness, a lot of people in this car actually pulled out books and newspapers to read on the way home. Not many passengers slept in the car.

Was normal lighting on in other cars or was the whole train unlit?
