Well, the Italian marble has been there for a while and was falling so it makes perfect sense. Plus, marble is horrible for our weather, it expands and contracts with the hot and cold weather we have. I am happy they're replacing it with white glass and not clear glass too (there's not much else they could replace the marble with anyways, other than steel or aluminum).
 
That temporary 3-storey cap is so 70's; suits the structure. They should quit while they're ahead and leave this exactly as it is now, "lighting up the sky" in a more elegant manner than the tacky red BMO logo that will soon return. :p
