Photos of Barrie's downtown (Dunlop Street) and the Lake Simcoe waterfront...

Across the street from the terminal, on the waterfront, is the Spirit Catcher. Featured at Vancouver's Expo '86, the sculpture is now considered Barrie's symbol.

The "wings" of the figure is made up of what appears to be gigantic spears, and they move in the wind! I find gigantic steel sculptures to be intimidating, but the wings add a new level of intimidation to it!

Heading into downtown Barrie, one of the first things I noticed was the back sides of downtown buildings that face the waterfront.

Thanks for the pictures. Recently we're getting a good portfolio of shots from smaller Ontario cities. Barrie is a nice place, although you're right, the City Hall is weird. I don't know what they were thinking.

Great shots. Thanks!

No bicycling downtown? Geez, I guess the pesky cyclists would interfere with the drivers....

I have to say though, the photos are great, but downtown Barrie strikes me as rather ... blah.

I can't believe someone thought that adding the green metal junk to the roof of that building would be an improvement.

Flar: Good pics of Barrie! As I remember reading it is a local summer resort town on Lake Simcoe. The city looks interesting and worth a look! LI MIKE

Sorry,Wylie-I will give you credit where it is due! How big of a getaway resort is Barrie for GTA residents? LI MIKE

Wow, no bicycling. And it's zero tolerance. I'm really going to respect that downtown by not dropping by. There's probably something I'm missing here. Maybe the BMX punks were taking over. Maybe they want pedestrians only. Or perhaps guerrilla suburbanites added the skateboarding bicycling part...

Nice shots! Downtown Barrie is pleasantly surprising...it sure doesn’t look like that from the 400 lol!

That no bicycling law blows me away, I could understand if it meant no bicycling on the sidewalk, but none in the downtown at all? Wow.

Barrie is mostly a place Torontonians drive past to get to actual resorts. Barrie is now to a great degree a bedroom community of 100,000 people, many of whom drive down the 400 every day to work in the GTA.
