EDC Feedback:

C.1 Blatchford Aircraft Control Tower (City Project)Michael Dub- Dub Architecture
Motion of support: D. Brown
Seconded: C. Dorward

The Committee welcomes this proposed development, and in the interest of ensuring ahigh standard of urban design recommends the Applicant:
● Consider the form and function of the Community Porch and how it enhances the public realm, encourages activity, engages the passerby, and creates a welcoming and year-round active space that accommodates both daily use and community events/celebrations, and creates the future potential for community commercial/concession additions. Key considerations could include moveable tables and chairs, a larger hard surface area between the bottom stairs of the porch and lawn, outdoor heaters, etc.

For the Motion: D. Brown, M. Tindall, J. Mills, K. Dieterman, S. Gibson, R.Subramanian, K. Oxley, C. Dorward

Was told its a good time the grass is dormant and in the spring it gets a quick start. No need for heavy watering. One of my projects did it last fall and they only had 3 spots to replace this summer. Even the trees survived.
Excellent time to plant until the ground freezes. I planted lots of trees this time of year (basically because they were on sale) and seeded lawns that did really well.

The contractor is still waiting for the city to approve a building permit, and has a shoring company on standby. I don't know what's causing the holdup, but I see the guy in charge at the site office every day.

As for the website, the Blatchford office told me they're still waiting for some info from EcoDen before it can be added to the map. Similar reason as to why the infobox for Crimson Cove's apartment is still so baren.
Crews were back on site today. I asked one of them if the city finally issued a building permit, and he said "I think so, yep."

Looks like we're back in business 🥳

That will be really nice to see that section continued and built upon. Yesterday I was driving nearby and was looking from the roadway and it looked much nicer in regards to how the space was filling out. The development didn't look like a tiny little add-on as it has for such a long time, visually it felt like something a bit more substantial. The continuation of work and the new building will further that. I am curious which direction the development is proceeding. I do hope that we'll see more development going closer and closer to the LRT station and NAIT.

That does seem to be something the development office is focusing on now. Not sure whether they heard the criticism or this was when they would turn their attention that way in any event... There is a rezoning application for a large chunk right beside the LRT station. Also, the NAIT lands are all serviced so that's up to NAIT (and their ability to get funding...) at this point.
