This City TV news story was broadcasted on Friday. Apparently a street light standard suddenly came crashing down into traffic and onto a pickup narrowly missing the occupant. The problem with the standard was that the base was cracked and disintegrated and needed replacement...scary thing is that City TV found that many of the surrounding standards were in equally bad shape. This could be potentially very dangerous seeing as that this type of street light standard is used down the entire length of Danforth and Bloor. I wonder if it was a good idea for the city to have sold ownership of streetlighting to Toronto Hydro last year. It doesn't seem like they're doing a good job of maintenance.
