Dear Editor:
Caledon/Bolton could not support GO Transit heavy rail and the Town is not looking at other options. They cannot sit back and assume GO Transit/ Metrolinx is going to provide a Commuter Rail Link to Toronto without significant cost, development charges etc.
The current plan for the extension of 427 to Major Mackenzie allows for a transit way integrated into the scheme. The missing link is a right of way between Bolton and Major Mackenzie, which could be used to provide a commuter link, initially by bus or light rail similar to Ottawa's Light Rail System.
I have lived in Bolton/Palgrave for 24 years, and I would expect that the timeline to bring a Commuter System to Bolton will exceed the time it has taken to complete a road network to bypass Bolton.
The growth plan does not generate the ridership for a heavy rail system, and currently the space required to support parking, a station and train storage is not available.
GO Transit currently has a tender document out for such facilities in Kitchener, we should monitor the infrastructure requirements and associated costs to deliver a new service to that area.
So what will we do in 2015 to provide support for the equestrian events to be held in Palgrave?
Don Norman,
Caledon
