There will of course be certain locations where you will get a nice (if still only partial) view, but if this building doesn't look amazing to anyone standing right in front, and even more importantly inside, of it, I would personally consider that a bit of a design letdown. As some famous guy once said, the details aren't the details...they make the design.

I am confident the inside will be beautiful. The outside, should look good, but for us who are more into the details,...time will tell.

I can't help but wonder if the spandrel material was chosen due to weather? Snohetta being from Norway may have had good success with that type of material through winter weather.

I agree, about the inside. I'm betting it'll be like nothing we've seen in Calgary.

Yeah, some of the new buildings that have been built or are being built are raising the bar when it comes to Calgary's architecture.

Thanks for the update Cyric. It looks like they have finished off the steel for the general shape of the building. How do the glass panels look in person?

Friggin excellent. This one is going to be a 10/10!

I haven't seen the Ryerson building up close, but I always thought it was metallic paneling...which is what I thought we would get at NCL. I kind of like the spandrel option too though...maybe it's that 'playfulness' Definitely when looking at from a distance, it looks great, and will look really good within its surroundings.

Ryerson is fritted glass. I can't tell if the spandrel is glass or aluminium or if even is spandrel at all. The interior renderings show you can see through it.

I'll be honest, I'm still not loving this. The facade looks a little cheap up close to me. But I'll be patient....
