I can't believe there are real people that actually think that. How is it that this kind of nonsense line is continuously regurgitated? Do people not actually live in the city who say this stuff? Are they the most fragile human alive?

What person is honestly incapable of walking 10 minutes outside for an entire 200 days of the year? How does one expect to function in this city? A heated parkade on each end of their destination?

Platform was designed such that the parkade could be converted to residential / conversion at some point, correct?

What's the likelihood that that occurs any time soon?
 
It was billed as being able to be converted to something later, but I don’t see it happening.

A better strategy than designing for conversion - apart from not building a parkade at all - is to build the cheapest, trashiest parkade with a design life of 10 years.

But if I recall correctly, Platform was a bizarre byproduct of restricted parking capital funding that could only be used for a parkade, but there wasn't actually a need or a want for a parkade. So they created a bizarre hybrid multi-use and supposedly convertible structure so the funding could at least be put to something slightly better than a standalone parking structure. It was always a really weird project.

If you'll indulge me, could we game this out a bit?

How would the cost of converting Platform compare to converting a commercial building or starting fresh? Surely having the concrete structure ready to go is a massive advantage compared to an empty lot.

Who would be the relevant stakeholders that would make the call? CMLC?
 
We've had conversations about this before, but the biggest reason it will probably always be a no-go is that the floor plates are sloped. Do you know of any people that like to work/live on a slant?

As a non-engineer, non-architect, but long time watcher, participant in total refurbishment of old buildings, and remember'er of the last set of DP/BP drawings, the entire parking component of the structure is slanted. The staircases and elevator shafts would have potential for reuse. Everything else would likely need to go.
