TBH, the ceder/pine shake is the only part of this project that's never really wowed me. It's looking really solid in spite of it though. The scale is a little smaller than I had imagined too.

It's 19 units total. The OSB you're seeing around the black cladding and balconies is the templating for the thin steel ribbon or shadow box that will form the 'mega-dormers'.

That exact design with zinc shingles instead of wood, would be absolute kick ass.

Interesting. I don't mind the shakes as is, but agree a higher quality materiality would set this building off!

Agreed, though that would cost about 10x as much at a minimum, and could push the project beyond the realm of feasibility.
Would love to see a pic from the front showing that shrouding, that looks to give the building a bit more cohesive appearance from the side...

Zinc would have been amazing, but as Mountain Man said, it's cost prohibitive. These private developments are always budget-challenged. It's a wonder we even got to do cedar!

I don't know what it is about that picture, but damn it looks soo good. The composition and the vertical linearity just make it flow so well. You've got a good eye.

I like the unusual mashup of styles here. I think it would have looked better white instead of black.

I much prefer black as it draws your attention, white would have been too subtle IMO.

I like the back but would have loved a light colored shingle. Overall though, I still really like this one. I also managed to get a pic from today.
