I was thinking that one day, places like this forum will be the new newspaper. Look how many articles are posted - and then we all talk about it.

So, my thoughts changed to - what if we actually hired a reporter to go after stories we were interested in? Of course there is no money. However, there are plenty of high school students who need to fill their volunteer time. Also, perhaps a grant from HRDC (or whatever the new department will be called) could allow a Ryerson journalism student?

We could maybe get more info wih press access?

I think your idea has merit. I went to J-school and I can tell you it would be hard now for us to get media accreditation. However, if we do take Urban Toronto to that next level, it could very well be a possibility.

If this forum becomes part of the 'official' media, it will have to play by the same rules as the mainstream media. That's a double edged sword. You gain some, but you lose a lot too.

Personally, I enjoy the renegade, wild west, last frontier sensibility of the forum as it is now...
