It may seem a small thing - but the attention to detail is striking - the small things like having panels and panes of glass aligning and working with the molding is more than most modern projects seem to be able to pull off.

Cool photos. What happens in Chicago when something of historical significance is found? Is the slip being preserved?

"historical significance" is subjective, and I have yet to see any buried items considered historically significant.

The remains of the slip - and coke plant ? - were removed where caissons needed to go, left in place where they could.

[edit] IIRC the Field Museum has a mastodon skull found during expressway construction, but that is pre-history.
