Theres a coast guard ship docked in the Peter Slip / Maple Leaf Quay. In all my years being here I dont recall seeing this before, anyone have a idea why it would just randomly dock here? Its quite a big ship. It severely dwarfs the fire boat. I would take a picture, but my camera is not working for some reason.

It likely is the same ship that was up here in Thunder Bay about a week ago being used as an ice breaker.

HAHAHA I just drove down by the waterfront and saw that boat and thought "Wow I've never seen that there before"

My theory is that it magically appeared out of nowhere. (it wasn't there before, was it?)

Does either the USN or MARCOM do regular military patrols along the Great Lakes? Could something like an aircraft carrier or destroyer even fit through the seaway?

I don't know about capital ships but major surface combatants like frigates and destroyers can fit for sure. That's why HMCS Toronto does visit it's home city every year or two.

As for patrols in the Great Lakes, that's the responsibility of the US Coast Guard. As part of various bilats and out of sheer common sense, neither country deploys naval assets in the Great Lakes. The problems faced on Great Lakes have more to do with law enforcement than sovereignty or other maritime interests.

Picture please! This sounds like a unique thing to see in Toronto. When does HMCS Toronto visit home next?
