Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post, but i have recently landed a job at AMD Canada, located at 1 Commerce Valley Dr. East
Markham, ON L3T 7X6.

I am a international student, so getting a car is not a very viable option, and going to work from where i live, Murano at bay/college will take way too long. Since im renting anyway, i am thinking of renting a condo near my workplace, does anyone have any recommendations? I am unfamiliar with uptown condos and understand there arnt many, unlike downtown.

so in short, i am looking for a condo near 1 Commerce Valley Dr. East in markham that i can bus to work preferably under 30 mins.

thanks, oh and price is not a issue as long as im getting the market price

Are you still a student and taking classes? If so, where?
Will you be going downtown on occasions?

AMD is located in a pretty nice and new business park conveniently located just off of Highway 7, and across the street (north of Highway 7) there is a lot of restaurants and a multiplex theatre.

I would recommend sticking to finding a place along the Highway 7 corridor between Bathurst and Warden. There is a major bus line (operated by VIVA) that frequently travels along Hwy 7.
There is a GO Train station at Highway 7 and Yonge that will take you downtown (Union Station) in half an hour. That area has some newer condos (and lots of houses) and is located near lots of shopping, restaurants and another multiplex theatre. Being near Yonge is also convenient too as there is another major bus line that runs down Yonge St.

The area where your new office is technically in Thornhill, as south of Hwy 7 is Thornhill and east of Hwy 404 is Markham, but because Hwy 407 divides this small area from the rest of Thornhill to the south it is often considered Richmond Hill.
There is a bunch of new and newer condos (some have nice amenities such as a pool and gym) and townhouses in a residential enclave bounded by Hwy 7, Commerce Valley Dr. West and Hwy 407 you should definitly consider (do a Google map search), you will be within walking distance to work, restaurants, transit and entertainment. I think this is your best bet.

Good luck on your new job!

there's an older Shane Baghai condo at the corner of John St and Leslie which is ~3 minutes south of AMD by bus. I'm sure there's regional buses that go up and down leslie .... however you'll have to be lucky to find a suite available.

I would consider looking on Craigslist or Kijiji and renting a room for a month or 2. They usually go for 400 to 500 per month. It would be easy to find something close to the work and you can pay month to month with a deposit. That way you can take your time to look around for a rental or even find a place with a co-worker to live with. Make sure you find something you like before you sign a 1 year lease.

Just my thoughts...

there's plenty of rental oppourtunities available in the area southwest of Highway 7 and Leslie (beyond Commerce Gate) collectively known as Galleria or Leitchcroft neighbourhood ... buildings are listed below in order of proximity to AMD offices:

  • Edgewater @ Galleria (399 South Park Road)
  • Saddlecreek Tower (135 Pond Drive)
  • Derby Tower (130 Pond Drive)
  • Liberty Towers (51 & 65 Times Avenue)
  • Parkview Towers (37 & 39 Galleria Parkway)
  • Victoria Tower (88 Times Avenue)
  • Thornhill Towers (48 & 62 Suncrest Boulevard) - my personal favorite :)
  • Galleria Tower (51 Saddlecreek Drive)

thank you sir for so much useful information! Yeah apparently there are alot of condos nearby within walking distance to amd!
I have recently learnt to to MLS, and it seems there are no studios in uptown condos, and 1 bedrooms are about 1300-1500 per month, which is almost comparable to downtown prices. Thats quite a hefty chunk out of my salary, but i guess if i cant force myself to commute i gotta do what i gotta do.

anyway, great site and great people, if there was a +rep option i'd definitely use it.
