Darkstar's Doors Open continues here.

Good photos Darkstar. You have motivated me to take a look inside Wycliffe College, a building I have never been in.

I had the chance several years ago to visit the Military Institute. Some of us were guests of a member there. As an old-school private club, they have certain traditions and customs. Jacket and tie are expected. After a drink in the bar, dinner was at 7.00, and was announced by a piper in full tartan who piped in the group at the head table. Afterward we saw the impressive library, apparently one of the best in Canada on military topics, with some rare books which are consulted by scholars. The place is perhaps not very remarkable architecturally, but worth a visit for "atmosphere".

Exactly my thoughts about RCMI. It's even more worthy of a visit now that it may soon be in a new environment that will be just about impossible to re-create that "atompshere."

Wycliffe is great. I now know why so many movies are filmed there!

Nice photos Darkstar.

Echoing Walt's comments, I have fond memories of visiting the RCMI in the 80's and 90's with my father for various talks, lectures and a hell of a nice snooker demonstration by Cliff Thorburn in the billiard room. The place really has the feel of the Dominion of Canada and the veterans with their flowing bears and mustaches and medals on their chest reinforced this impression. Even the old "chit" system at the bar and the various military conversations floating by brought to mind Orwell's writings mixed with a dash of Kipling. The place is a bit of an anachronism but a rather nice one.

Nice shots, particularly this shot:

Not the best photo per se, but I like the indoor, in ground, open air aquarium.
