One of my highlights at this years Doors Open was a visit to Zeidler Partnership Architects headquarters located at 315 Queen West. Zeidler is known for many projects including Ontario Place, The Eaton Centre and the new Trump Tower Toronto. While I've passed the location literally thousands of times over the years I had no clue what was going on behind the scenes. All I knew was I that liked the model of Ontario Place (now gone for some reason) that was found at this unassuming entrance way.

And all of a sudden a major atrium. Sure looks a lot like a famous mall they designed down the road doesn't it?

Change of topic but a Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen West? Really?

The retail is so well done you wouldn't actually know that they occupy the entire building. I certainly didn't.

I too went to their offices at a Doors Open (a few thousand years ago) and it was very much a highlight. The interior is a beautiful workspace and the exterior is a great contemporary take on the surrounding streetscape.

I've always hated this building--can't wait to see it come down for something better...c.2025?

It's not an unattractive postmodern building. I like the unusual cladding and the distinctive Zeidler interior, which reminds me of the Eaton Centre. Connections like that are interesting.
