During the "big thaw" yesterday (Feb 7) I decided to take a trip to a place in Toronto that I rarely visit... East Chinatown. Being Chinese and being able to count the number of times I've visited Broadview and Gerrard, I always had the impression that the neighbourhood was in decline and almost dead. During yesterday's walk some signs pointed in that direction (empty and grimy storefronts, for example), but the number of pedestrians in the afternoon is a sign that the neighbourhood isn't completely dead, even though it's nowhere near what Spadina and Dundas gets on an average day.
