I appreciate the way that this throws so much very deserved shade at the hotels that are already here.

Ian makes a valid point - last hotel built was probably the Nova in the early 2000's - the rest of them need a date with a wrecking ball.

Speaking of hotels - 1 or 2 weekends ago - at the Crowne Plaza - I didn't know it was an "independent" hotel - void of any chain affiliation - boy oh boy it sure does need some love. Parkade is gonna slide into the N.Sask in my lifetime - main areas of the hotel are showing 60 years of abuse.....speaking of a wrecking ball.

Streetside has some lots facing the pond and here is what is being built for $480k - bungalow style townhomes. So one level with optional basement development. These are highest priced properties in Blatchford I think per sq/ft.

The large rec space in the optional basements have no windows.

Well, it does bring an option previously missing and this could be a good layout for seniors who don't want to go up and down stairs all of the time (side note: the stairs climbed data on my smart watch goes went through the roof when I moved in). It'll be more readily adaptable to those with special mobility needs than anything else built to date. But I can't say I'm feeling like I'm in any way missing out.

Amazing to see all the builder interest and sold lots here. All the area needs is a Felice cafe equivalent and this should keep going. Commute times to downtown/core from the south side keep on increasing year on year so I'm sure we'll see continued demand here.

Oh yes. I spend a lot of time looking at the back end of the Edmonton Inn. And I also went to a conference at the Chateau Louis in the pre-COVID times when it was already definitely quite long in the tooth.

This could probably qualify as needing its own thread. The condition of that parkade is honestly concerning. I'd love to see a building condition assessment for that element of the property. There are some areas under the parking decks that have me rubbing my eyes sometimes.

Yup... and that's after some remediation work ~10-15yrs ago.

It needs millions of dollars of work. I could see them demolishing it versus saving it and adding a new option across the street or something.

Who recalls that wing-shaped tower concept on top of it too.

Maybe it just because its the holiday season, and I've been having a little too much to think.. Doesn't it seem like it might be a good idea to put the brakes on blatchford until we can figure out to get Edmonton a grand central station of our own?

It would probably still be best if the HSR terminated at gov center, but for other lines, like a connection west to Jasper, I can't think of where else an improved station could go?

An equivalent of Felice cafe would be great. In addition, I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of restaurants, at least one pub, a mom & pop grocer, a medical clinic and a fitness facility for the Blatchford area.

Well, there's definitely an immense heap of fill out that way. Some will likely be redistributed, but it could easily become the backbone of a "feature hill".

It's popular among the local coyote population. I guess they can keep watch over much of the neighbourhood from up there.

The whole appeal of a town home is that they are a step up from a condo/apartment, but who would want to spend the extra and have your front and back windows look directly at your neighbors front and back windows because your home is sandwiched in. At least my condo has a nice street view.
The Stratosphere project seems to be more of the same.

At least with Stratosphere, the backs look out over a courtyard and not an alleyway, but they will be still be fairly close in. The Streetside ones remind me a lot of a condo I lived in in Abbottsfield years ago, except with enclosed garages rather than a car port.
