Plain and simple any parking that's there is designed into the plan because we live in the "Car is King" land of Alberta.

I don't think you have to single out Alberta, it's a Canada/USA-wide phenomenon.

Yeah that is true for the most part although here in Alberta one of the things I've heard people say was how surprised they were to see how many pickup trucks are on the road and how popular they are here. Trucks are popular also in many places but I wouldn't be surprised that the amount of pickups here in Alberta and Saskatchewan both is quite substantial despite the fact that only a small percentage of people who have trucks actually need trucks.

Farming community on the Prairies contributes to that...and some of the oilfield workers love their trucks too.

Sure, but there's a big difference between a working truck and a shiny status truck that's never seen a load or mud or an unpaved road. Frankly, I'm amazed that people can afford them cause those things ain't cheap!

So here’s the funny thing: a lot of them can’t afford it. They just take out hella lines of credit and spend too much money on car payments

Too true. Plus gassing up those behemoths must also be insanely expensive. As someone who has always lived well below her means I tend to forget about that because it's just so...weird to me. Maybe it's the whole thing of being an immigrant and learning how to make do with little?

have neighbors that all are Medical professionals. All have pickups. Instead of 100,000 car they pick up the 100, 000 truck. On my street of the 13 pick ups. 6 are work trucks.

What really irritates me is the people who buy massive trucks for no good reason then complain about the cost of filling their gas tanks.

I think the city should impose surtaxes on any pick-up truck registered to a city address but is not associated with any business. I know that's not everyone's take but seriously, it's crazy seeing a lot of them trying to maneuver city parking lots. plus, I have no idea how that would work.

Some people prefer automatic guns, some prefer legal hunting rifles. We still regulate based on safety risks, not preferences.
I like what other countries do where purchase taxes or registration fees are tied to vehicle weight/size. Bigger vehicles pay more to reflect greater damage and risks.
