Interestingly, there was an old TD Bank building in Toronto, now converted to a hotel and residence that had a huge vault. They kept it and it has now become quite an interesting unique attraction for visitors.

Good lord, we've destroyed so many beautiful buildings. I almost wish they didn't put up historical plaques at those locations because what they're basically saying is "this butt-ugly forgettable block has taken the place of this beautiful piece of history in the name of progress. feast your eyes and weep!"

The Kelley-Ramsey Building was partially destroyed by arson, likely for insurance purposes.

I do remember that. It was also so wonderful to see its resurrection. Shame Bistro Praha never made it back there. Their current location is less than stellar.

They were also built for street level interaction and retail and unlike newer building provided affordable space for a good variety of businesses that also helped attract people to the area and more pedestrians in general.

We went way to far with this destruction and if we ever want to have a more lively, pleasant downtown, we need to work to bring back at least a few more of these.

I don’t know how I didn’t think about this building… it used to be my favourite when I lived there (although I had no idea about the vault). PERFECT example of what a reimagined Tegler could look like:
