Soaring 12.8 metres above the North West corner of Rogers Place Arena, with a width of over 10 metres,Essential Tree evokes the model trees used by architects in their design models. Similar in scale to the Green Ash trees (Fraxinus Pennsylvanica) that will eventually grow to frame Rogers Place, this highly stylized sculpture hearkens back to the formal topiaries of the Baroque era, and serves as a reminder of the impact humankind has on nature.

Completed Rogers Place opens doors for public

The public is invited to tour through the new Rogers Place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016. The open house comes before any concerts or games, and gives people an opportunity to see the public areas of Edmonton’s newest arena.

“So much effort has gone into making sure every detail gives people the best experience possible, and this is a great opportunity to get an up-close and personal look at our city’s new arena,” says Rick Daviss of the City of Edmonton. “This is the start of a new day for our Downtown and we are really excited to share the upsurge in energy that Rogers Place will bring.”

“On behalf of the entire Rogers Place team, we are thrilled to welcome the public to the building for the first time,” said Susan Darrington, General Manager of Rogers Place. “This open house will be the first of many ‘I Remember Moments’ that our community will be celebrating for decades to come and we hope to create an amazing experience for all.”

Among the highlights of the tour will be seeing the Ford Hall artwork by world-renowned Indigenous artist Alex Janvier, the NHL’s largest true high-definition scoreboard, and the bright, wide concourses offering an impressive array of food and beverage options.

Tickets to the open house will be released to the public on August 29. Tickets are free and the public will be required to book a scheduled arrival/entrance slot between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.. This will allow organizers to space out crowds and give the tens of thousands of interested people the opportunity to attend.

Event information, including how to get to the openhouse, and links to secure tickets will be released onedmonton.ca/rogersplace on August 29.

Guests will receive a souvenir booklet that will provide maps for their self-guided tour of Rogers Place, which will take between 60 to 90 minutes.

Edmonton-area residents chomping at the bit to see the city’s new downtown arena will get their chance Sept. 10.

An open house for the new Rogers Place will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day, just before the building gets down to the business of hosting concerts and hockey games.

“So much effort has gone into making sure every detail gives people the best experience possible, and this is a great opportunity to get an up-close and personal look at our city’s new arena,” Rick Daviss, the city’s executive director of the downtown arena project, said Monday in a news release.

The city expects tens of thousands of people could respond to the invitation for an inside look at one of the most eagerly anticipated projects in Edmonton’s history.

Tickets are free and will be released to the public Aug. 29. More information will be made available that day on the web at Edmonton.ca/rogersplace, including links to get tickets.

With the ongoing downtown development, the City is experiencing major changes in how and when people move in and out of the downtown core and surrounding neighbourhoods. In order to accommodate these changes and to minimize negative impacts on local residents and business owners, the City has made adjustments to the current parking rate structure.

Starting September 1, 2016, the City of Edmonton is extending EPark hours of operation in downtown zones from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Rogers Place event nights, at a rate of $3.50 per hour.

The affected EPark zones are from 97 Street to 109 Street and from Jasper Avenue to 107 Avenue. These extended hours will be in effect on Monday through Saturday evenings during Oilers and Oil Kings games and major events/concerts at Rogers Place.

Existing daytime rates and free parking after 6 p.m. on non-event nights, Sundays and holidays remain unchanged. EPark rates outside of this area also remain unchanged.

The hourly extension is intended to help balance the limited amount of on-street parking spaces with the high demand for parking by businesses, residents and visitors, as well as to encourage event-goers to use alternate means of transportation, such as transit.

Library and City Hall parkade rates will also be changing effective September 1. The Library Parkade evening maximum will increase to $10 every night. An evening maximum rate of $16 will be implemented at City Hall Parkade on event nights and a $1 per hour increase after 5 p.m. will be implemented on non-event nights. Daytime rates are not changing.

The EPark system allows users to pay for parking with coin, credit card, mobile browser, or by texting or calling. The app can also save frequent users both time and money.

Just about time to hang the "completed" sign on this one. Turned out far better than the renderings -- good architect = good results! This is the best Edmonton Centre/Edmonton-centric project of all of those listed. Let's hope that Daryl Katz makes an effort to keep up the exceptional design standards for surrounding properties that he owns -- slipped a little in my opinion with Stantec tower and tower "B"; can still make up for it in future projects.
 
The inside scoop on how to get to Oilers games at Rogers Place
With the troubled Metro Line LRT still not operating as planned, the best option for Oilers fans heading downtown this fall is the Capital Line LRT, officials trying to prep for opening-day chaos said Wednesday.

“Please plan your first few visits,” said Stuart Ballantyne, senior vice-president, operations, Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG), outlining the parking, transit and walking options around the still-active construction zone at Rogers Place. “Ultimately, the best way is to take transit.”
