While on the subject I could see a WNBA franchise also working in Edmonton. With a season from mid-May to mid-September comprised of 22 regular season home games it would blend nicely with an NHL finals run (lifting some of the angst with an alternative distraction when the Oilers struggle as they sometimes do). For those who don't know "The Edmonton Grads" carries a lot of historical weight in the basketball world; as a spectator I love women's basketball and there are some notable Canadians in the game.

Here is AI's take:

If I buy a ticket to see YEG Yard Sales vs. Edmonton Top Cheddar I want you to shoot me.

I could definitely see Edmonton Blizzard working as a cool name, and very easy to associate with the city

Super random and weird. I guess great for their branding. Banks are great stable long term tenants but in other cities this would be actual retail.

Bank leases cap out at much higher values than retail, pay higher rents, tend to renew forever, and are not particularly intensive from a management perspective.

Sometimes what looks really good on the balance sheet - or in the sales particulars - simply doesn't translate to well-animated or curated spaces or active/lively neighbourhoods.

Yeah, we usually get one or two every year so I suppose, but I could see a good corporate sponsorship opportunity with a certain fast food chain.
Warren Buffet will not buy the naming rights to a Lacrosse Team in YEG……lol

There was an Edmonton Drillers soccer team.

I really doubt he would be involved in such day to day decisions, but if he was let remember he is a value investor and the price would probably not be that high.
I was totally being factious - no way a Gajillionaire like Buffet would sponsor a team owned by a Billionaire like Katz. Buffet owns Dairy Queen outright, so I can't see him handing money to a fellow billionaire so the "Oracle of Omaha," can watch his Lacrosse team in YEG - owned by Katz wearing Buffet's jersey's.....lol.

Yes, I get it was facetious. However, why do companies sponsor anything? It is not to hand money to other billionaires who happen to own many sports teams, but because it is good advertising and promotion for their own businesses. We don't have Ford Hall just because the Ford family wants to help out Katz.
