The city is going to be rebuilding Stadium LRT Station to improve safety and accessibility. Basically it will become a surface-level station with a much more open and airy design, as well as adding an additional platform to handle event-day loads.

I hope they design to accommodate travelers during the winter. A "much more open and airy design" doesn't cut-it during a deep freeze. All transit stops could be better designed from a winter city perspective, please and thank you !

Stadium LRT Station Redevelopment
The Stadium LRT Station Redevelopment project is scheduled to begin in mid-May. This project will address aging infrastructure that has been serving Edmonton for over 40 years. Improvements include an additional platform, new heated shelters, public washrooms and security office. This work will also involve renovating the entire station building, including the roof canopy, and removing the underground concourse. With these changes, passengers will enjoy an improved customer experience, including upgraded lighting and a more comfortable waiting area. We anticipate construction will be completed in January 2022.

@danimori Probably not for a long long time, as developable land is still plentiful and cheap here. Plus the city acting as a developer would raise a lot of issues, I think.
Yet shockingly they still do it. They could proscribe someone to do it and make a shared service agreement for the building. It's not the worst idea and happens quite regularly in other places.
