A random shot of everyone's favourite building. (Doesn't look too bad from this view)

Doesn’t look too good either! :)

But it is a good photo, thanks for sharing!

What does look good is the tree canopy at the edges of Sir Winston Churchill Square.
Yeah, this is the better side of the library, the west side is hideous. If I were the Art Gallery of Ontario, I would be insulted to be compared to this. Any similarity is coincidental.

While Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa all built great libraries, we yet again cheaped out along with a lack of imagination. The people in our city who came up with this should be embarrassed.

I wonder if this work is part of what was removed from the scope of work when the library was value engineered and whether the current costs exceed the deduction that was approved as part of that exercise?

Or was it deleted when the 102 Avenue LRT line was value engineered? Or when the 99th street LRT roof needed its waterproofing redone? In which case the same question applies... :(

DT Edmonton is schnasty. I spent a few days last week doing some fieldwork research in various parts of KL, Malaysia as part of a urban quality of life study. In a city of over 8 million people in an MIC country with a per capita income 1/4 that of Canada I saw less than 10 homeless people / substance abuse victims in three full days of visiting some of the busiest and more crowded business / transportation nodes in the CBD and inner suburbs. The public places were very safe, clean and the people mostly dressed well and looked happy. Having permissive drug laws and catch&release laws is doing very serious damage to Canadian society. But "elbows up" everyone.

Incorrect thread.

There are a lot of issues about the Library renovation that I do not feel positive about and the picture of the recent work there also makes me wonder if it shouldn't have been done when that happened.

However, in these recent pictures I only see construction people and normal pedestrians nearby, so lets get off the drugs rant for a bit.

Holy moly is that current confined entrance a recipe for disaster.

It's unsafe, cramped and had a lot of folks just in your way and hanging out blocking the path.

How we don't have EPS or Peace Officers removing folks from those who actually want to use our main public library is beyond me.
