That power pole looks so out of place in the non-cropped shot. Haha. I was in Calgary this past week staying downtown, and I won't lie, I was slightly envious of their downtown. The LRT going all over the place. We'll get there, but it will still take a while.

@westcoastjos Haha, yeah at least that pole looks temporary.

I do love downtown Calgary, and am envious of how filled-out it is and their skyline, as well as how nicely areas like East Village and Beltline are filling in. At the same time, while we still have a long way to go, I think in the long term we'll end up having the more resilient downtown core with a mix of residential, office, educational facilities, and retail, bringing in a diverse demographic that will help keep the core alive even during an economic downturn. As I understand it, that's where Calgary has been hit the hardest - right in the core - despite amazing mixed developments going up all around its edges.

Agreed. I think as a city we should embrace our city history as well. Extending the Street-Car line to the McDonald Hotel would do that in part. Steamboat tours along the river on a regular basis would be another. Just a couple of ideas. It's great to have all these shiny buildings but put some old time charm to the city. That would make it perfect.

Looks like the BIG POUR has begun, defying current weather conditions!
Logistical nightmare. Haha. Looks like Tower B is doing a pour today too. I hope pedestrians, cyclists, and the truck drivers are all aware of their surroundings today.

Any local forum photogs (@Das Ponto, @chrisvazquez7, @westcoastjos) want to attend a media topping-off event at Stantec Tower on Friday Nov. 17 in my stead? Sadly I will be at the Holyrood Gardens public hearing all day, because that hasn't taken up enough of my life yet apparently.

Let me know and I'll provide details. Need to know by tomorrow (Wednesday Nov. 15).

I wished I could help you out but I am on another site that day. However anyone going to do this should not be afraid of heights. The hike up the last few floors is a mental challenge, walking up the stair strapped to the side of the building. I would also recommend you have proper PPE. On this site Hardhat with lanyard, boots(6" ankles), Vest, gloves and safety glasses. I would also recommend a helmet liner because the wind is cold up there.
