Signage just went up in our lobby with a move date so I guess it's official news

Interesting to observe the amount of shoring and reshoring on this tower where they use several floors as opposed to 2-3 floors. I've generally counted at least 5 floors. I imagine this is due to our colder climate.

This document provides some good reading on the subject - http://www.engineerandbuild.com/RESHORING ACI 3472R_05.pdf - I wouldn't call it light reading though.

Looks like they are on floor 21 right now, so another 9 to go for offices.

May 26 - Stantec overtook JW Marriott while I wasn't looking. I guess JW won't get to temporarily hold the title for Edmonton's tallest like I thought it would.

Might still happen when Stantec takes a 6-8 week break for the transition slab.

By my armchair quarterback calculations, by the time that Stantec reaches the transition slab it will be the equivalent of 7 condo floors further along (height-wise) so I don't see how JW can ever regain the lead in the "tallest" race. It will have to settle for second place until the Quarters project passes both of those now under construction. BTW downtown condo construction demand in Edmonton is now the hottest or second hottest (depending on whose study one reads) in all of Canada. Also, Edmonton has the greatest hotel expansion quotient of major Canadian cities. Don't expect these height records to last for long.

I don't see how JW can ever regain the lead in the "tallest" race.

They were neck and neck for awhile. Isn't JW currently at a transition layer? JW can regain the lead if the following are true:
- The only delays are due to transition layers.
- Stantec's transition layer will take significantly more time than JW's (by several weeks).
- The rate of height increase will be roughly constant before and after the transition.

Are these true? Or has JW slowed for something other than a transition? Also, Stantec's average rate does appear to be slightly faster than JW's, as it seems to have started one or two floors behind JW and eventually caught up.

Stantec's transition is around the height of Bell, so I think that JW will regain the lead and Stantec won't be the tallest until it passes the completed JW.
