In 2018, the federal government of Canada created the Laboratories Canada (LabsCanada) initiative and established a 25-year strategy to deliver on its vision to strengthenfederal sciences in Canada. The strategy focuses on achieving scientific excellencethrough creating a national network of modern and multipurpose scientific infrastructure. The Labs Canada initiative involves innovative delivery models to renew aging scienceinfrastructure, creating a modern platform to support evidence-based policy, and enablecost-effective scientific program delivery. New facilities will house modern laboratoriesand collaborative spaces that are environmentally sustainable, accessible, and fitted withtechnology tailored to meet the needs of federal scientists. New labs will bring together science-based departments and strengthen their research through enhancedinterdisciplinary work, collaboration, and shared facilities, and equipment.

The Regulatory and Security Sciences (RSS) Main Hub project will rehouse five ScienceBased Departments and Agencies (SBDAs) from separate aging facilities locatedthroughout the National Capital Region. Canadian Boarder Service Agency (CBSA),Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Health Canada (HC), National ResearchCouncil (NRC), and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) will all operate out ofthe RSS Main building. Each SBDA will have dedicated space within the main building, except for NRC which will exclusively share facilities. Thirteen additional supportbuildings are planned for future implementation within the vicinity on the Main building.

I actually really like this project. Creates more local positions which can help reduce congestion and promote more public transit use for those within this part of the city. The roads are overloaded, at least these would go against common traffic. Only thing that sucks is component 1 (first phase) won't be completed until 2030. I was hoping we'd see this finalized by that point and they'd hit the ground running with it shortly.
