where can i find cinemas in Toronto that show foreign movies from Europe and East/southeast Asia?

First there's the Carlton Cinemas on the north side of Carlton Street just east of Yonge but beware, the cinemas are tiny (55-120 seats each) with small screens. Many find the cinemas forgivable because it's all about the great films. Excellent bookings here.
The Cumberland Cinemas are located on the south side of Cumberland Ave. just east of Avenue Road. It was built in the late 70's, cinemas seat between 200-320 each, it has medium sized screens (perhaps some would call them small compared to the ridiculous monster sized screens in the new giga-plexes that no one seems capable of being able to focus the picture on) with decent sound systems. Arguably, the best booked cinema in the city for foreign and independent film.
The Varsity Cinemas in the Manulife Centre (Bay & Bloor) will, from time to time play foreign/independent films, it's a very good venue with good sized screens & really good sound systems.
AMC in (the former) Toronto Life Square at Dundas & Yonge will play the odd foreign film. Big screens here but they have excellent digital projection systems so the focus is good, the sound is good in most of the cinemas and the seats are to die for.
The Bloor Cinema on the north side of Bloor, east of Bathurst is a cool old repertory cinema that plays a variety of great films from Hollywood 2nd run, foreign, Rocky Horror to exclusive bizzaro stuff no cinema chain would dare touch. Decent sized screen, good sound, great crowds! Google "Bloor Cinema" to find their website to see what they're schedule is for the month so that you can plan ahead. Their programming generally changes every night or two.
The Royal Cinema is on the north side of College Street at Clinton, their programming varies but foreign films are often played here. The art deco Royal was restored recently and upgraded with a big (not not too big) 40'ish foot screen with a rockin' sound system, well worth the trip out there if you find a film that suits your taste.

Did I miss any? Despite our strong, healthy, multicultural communities here in Toronto most of the cinemas that played films that served larger communities (Indian cinemas in Little India, Chinese films in Chinatown etc) are but a distant memory - so far as I know. Sadly, it's all about DVD's now.

Pick up a free copy of Now Magazine (it comes out on Thursday's) which will list all films playing in the city for the coming week. Hope this helps.
