Re: Globe: Will Toronto Rise to the Skyscraper Challenge (JB

London definately has got it going on too, Brighter!

I think there's some really cool stuff in Toronto in the public sector and in the real estate condo sector too. I'm just not overly excited about private sector corporate construction here. Would love to see some more risks taken, and the bar raised a little.

If you want to see a city with new towers that are consistently more creative and soul-stirring (thank you, JBM) than Toronto's, forget Chicago. Look at London. Some amazing stuff happening there -

But isn't this the "cherry-picking" of notable projects that you alluded to earlier?

Re: Globe: Will Toronto Rise to the Skyscraper Challenge (JB

^No, it's the tallest new towers in the city. Just like the Chicago and Toronto ones I listed, except it looks like the London thread has proposals there too.

Re: Globe: Will Toronto Rise to the Skyscraper Challenge (JB

I find all the projects being built in London to be consistently amazing. There's a few factors:

- Almost everything built in the 60s, 70s, and much of the 80s is utter crap... usually worse than anything in Toronto.
- London is not a highrise city, so the highrises that do get built have a lot more pressure for quality. Low-end highrises aren't being built, you'll instead end up in a tiny row house.
- There is sooooo much money in London these days along with sky-high property values; lots of money for quality.
- Likely tighter design controls
- The novelty factor for someone from N. America.
