The street light in the photo looks promising from what I've read about light pollution - lights are pointing down only which reduces the light that is:
- wasted because it's not illuminating the street
- actually makes it harder to see because it's shining in your eyes instead of on the street
- making it harder to see the stars.

Are these the same cobra-head lamps that are being used in Richmond Hill?

I happened to catch these in action the other night. (Delaware Avenue south of Bloor Street).
I'm not crazy about the quality of light. It's a very futuristic, cold and unwelcoming flourescent-like white light. But I'm sure it uses a ton less electricity.

I hope to heck the acorns don't go. They are a perfect Toronto symbol: simple, elegant, unique, and instantly recognizable. It would be a real shame to lose something like that.
