A lot has been said about our waterfront, mostly negative, but things are changing slowly. It's not quite the sad joke it was when I first moved to Toronto and parts of it are actually becoming attractive places worth a visit. Here are some pics from last week.

The old Harbourfront Antiques store is becoming a Shoppers Drug Mart

Aaaah, blocks of granite...

The rest of the pics are just random shots around the harbour showing some new boardwalks and cobblestone walkways.

I miss the antinque market. I used to buy stuff off of Yank Yanzman. I also almost bought a 45 year old Brietling Chrono for $800.00. Not fake either. Alas, I was too chicken to spend the green.

Harbourfront needs food and booze.

ganja:

Your pics is proof positive that our waterfront isn't "dead" as some would claim it to be - and that the last round of redo by aA worked wonders.

MrOttawa: Yank moved to the smaller location on King Street West, opposite Roy Thomson Hall, where the ever expanding Cynthia Findlay is queen bee.

There is hope. And judging by these pictures - progress and life.

We are really seeing some positive changes. The new Sobey's in QQT has made an impact on grocery shopping in the area. I was chatting with a worker there yesterday and they've been packed since opening. Overall it's a very nice store and a welcome addition to the hood.

Now if they would just speed up that HtO project. It seems to be taking forever...

Thanks for the photos. The work done with the boardwalk is a much needed improvment.

If you look at the pictures you notice they were taken a few weeks back when the weather was still cool. Must of been really busy this past weekend.

Those pictures demonstrate what I noticed walking yesterday along the waterfront on this year's hottest day.

HTO park is doing wonders by linking together Harbourfront and the Musical Garden. This trio creates a very long stretch of great waterfront property from Spadina to Bathurst. Some improvements West of the Music Garden will link it to the parkland around the Exhibition grounds.

Also, today, I was at Sunnyside and the place was buzzing! 9 courts with people playing volleyball, canoers in the water, kayakers gearing up, people playing frisbee on the grass, rollerbladers and bikers everywhere....
... and Sunnyside Café was packed with patio goers and a lineup along the boardwalk for more.

I can tell you: Our Waterfront is far from dead.

And the condos like Waterclub actually look pretty good when looking back at the city. Gardiner hiders all.

tony, dylan and i walked around the city for hours after the doors open sites closed on sunday. sunnyside looked great and so did the giant swans! photos coming soon.

Building Bable,

Thanks. Yank always has cool stuff and a good story.

Ah, finally trees in the city of Toronto that aren't dying or dead! I think we are getting somewhere here!

Sobeys and Shoppers Drug Mart - looks like with the recent condo towers opening - WaterClub, Riviera, and others the area along Queen's Quay has finally hit critical mass!

The waterfront has been fairly lively for years. It's really a small percentage of the waterfront that's in terrible shape...it just happens to be in a prime area.
