Hello, I am the Sales Manager of Paul Hahn & Co., a piano store that opened in Toronto in 1913. The original location of the store was at 717 Yonge Street, which was Roy's Square, but is now the open space waiting for the construction of a condominium at the SE corner of Yonge & Bloor. The store, throughout its history has been at 22 Bloor Street E, which is now the Bay, and had to move to make room for the B/D Subway, 224 Bloor St. W, which is now the site of the Hotel Intercontinental, on St. Joseph St., and a short stint with a second location at Cloverdate Mall. Our 100th anniversary is approaching, and I am interested in collecting any photographs of any of the store locations throughout its history. We have been in our current location of 1058 Yonge Street (just north of Ramsden Park) since 1972, when Paul Hahn Jr. bought the property.
I have made several trips to the Toronto Archives and the Ontario Archives to see what I could find, and I only managed to locate some TTC photos of Yonge St with the 1058 location in the background, before Paul Hahn Jr. bought it.
I know that there are photos out there, and I would love to included them in our 100 yr. Anniversary Celebration in 2013.
I am grateful for any assistance anyone can provide.

Kindest,

Jeremy Elliott, Sales Manager, Paul Hahn & Co.

I had no luck finding an image of any of the locations, but I did manage to find some ephemera:

Wwebster! Thank you! Some of the locations are apparently unknown to the family. Thank you for this. I'm fascinated that the store moved so often in the early years, but stayed in the Yonge/Bloor area.

Though elusive, I have found one picture of the store in the Bloor East location.

It seems to have been in one of the formerly residential buildings just east of Yonge:

1910 Goad's Atlas:

To the east was Moulton College and the Bloor Street Methodist Church:

1927 view of the block (the streetcar is blocking the view of the store):

1929 view (the store was probably just to the left of the picture):

The Paul Hahn sign can be seen in this pic:

By 1951, demolition is underway for the subway (the Packard Building is gone), but some of the buildings remain:

Additional curiousity: "San Francisco" is playing at the Towne Cinema. Unusual to think of a 1936 movie playing in 1951.....

Charioteer! I appreciate your sleuthing. The window into your search-process is also very enlightening.

Putting all of this together.. the picture is becoming clearer!

Thanks!

Jeremy
