Information I would be looking for are...

1) Schools in the area
2) Parks in the area
3) Average price of homes in area
4) Recently sold homes in area
5) Shopping and Restaurant in area.

Schools, parks, and shopping in a neighbourhood ... there is no substitute for getting out there and actually driving or walking in the area. Take your time and scout it out in person. If you can hit an area on Sat. or Sun. afternoons, you can drop in to any open houses that may be going on.
