Anyone here remember The Rooster, a Portuguese rotisserie chicken take-out place that was on Bloor for many years? Several years ago they closed down due to a kitchen fire, which was frustrating for me since they had reasonably priced food of good quality. Just by chance last week I happened to see that they reopened on the east side of Yonge, about a block south of St. Clair!

You mean this place:

Nah, don't remember it; but I will now.

Odd for you though, I mean as UT's dive bar specialist, patronizing an place that doesn't sell booze? Weird.

PS 942 Bloor West still shows on their website as 'temporarily closed'

It certainly didn't look in good shape in July '23 (streetview)

There's lots of permits out on the building.

I have confirmed they intend to re-open on Bloor, their target is end of '24 or early '25.

Wow, I'm amazed that they're actually coming back to Bloor! I thought for sure they were gone permanently. That fire was pre-pandemic, so it's been quite a while.

Hey! I'm not a booze hound! 😇

The rooster was good! I used to work out west and live in the annex, and often picked up food there on the way home.

But wasn’t it “Sardinha - o rei dos frangos” before becoming the rooster?

Yes, that was the previous name of the chicken place. Not sure if they changed hands or if the renaming was done to sound more simplified or memorable for the wider spectrum of people who are not Portuguese.
