Nice shot. I recently got frustrated with my inability to identify buildings from the Space Needle -- so I constructed this image.

why it's called the Space Needle.

It was built for the Century 21 Exposition (Seattle World's Fair) in 1962 -- the Fair's motto was "Living in the Space Age"
